  • What's the cost?

    $461 for access to 3 on-demand courses that total 14 contact hours, course workbooks, and access to a bonus Community Group page for the Reflective Practice in Peds course.

  • How are the courses in the bundle delivered?

  • Can I earn continuing education (CE) credit?

    The Pediatric Primer course is available for .6 AOTA CEUs. The Strengths-Based course is available for .45 AOTA CEUs. The Reflective Practice in Peds course is available for .35 AOTA CEUs. Starting in September 2024 the Reflective Practice in Peds course will also be available for .35 ASHA CEUs.

  • Are there prerequisites?

    All the courses in this bundle are introductory/beginner-level. No prerequisites are required for this bundle.

  • What are the requirements for bundle access?

    The Therapeutic Edge uses a course platform (Thinkific) that records the dates and times of each completed module you take. These on-demand courses are delivered via several video modules, course workbooks, downloadable slide handouts, and 3 final online post-tests (1 after each course). Access to a computer with reliable audio and internet connection is required.

  • What are the requirements for course completion?

    Learners must watch all the video content and pass the online exams (multiple choice) with an 80% or higher. Learners will also have to complete course evaluations/surveys at the end to earn continuing education credit. The Reflective Practice course also has additional reflection questions and an activity that must be completed.

  • Do you allow partial credit?

    You can receive credit for the completion of one course, separate from the completion of the other courses in the bundle. Partial credit is not allowed for the individual courses within the bundle. You must complete the course in its entirety to receive credit for each course. The original purchaser must sign an attestation statement that they are the one who took the course as well as the post-test to receive CE credit.

    Refunds will be issued within 14 days of purchase or if no more than 3 modules in the bundle have been completed. There will be no refunds after this time due to the self-paced nature of the course. You may request a full refund or transfer your registration to another course of equal value. Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of Reflective Practice in Peds, participants will:

  • Define the meaning of reflective practice.

  • Recognize core elements of reflective practice and supervision, based on current research.

  • Identify tools to be an effective reflective practitioner.

  • Identify barriers (personally experienced) to reflective practice.

  • Identify and discuss different forms of reflective practice.

  • Identify and describe a challenging scenario and list appropriate questions for “reflection-on-action.”

  • List ways to encourage and incorporate reflective practice into their workplace.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of Using a Strengths-Based Approach, participants will:

  • Explain that behavior is communication when a child is dysregulated.

  • Describe recent research connecting movement, sensory, and executive function to behavior and emotion in children.

  • Discuss the importance of movement to higher-level brain function and occupational performance.

  • Identify the difference between proactive and reactive responses to tantrums/meltdowns.

  • Discuss the impact of trauma on a child’s performance.

  • Identify how the ability to regulate during occupation is affected by retained reflexes and decreased complex movement patterns.

  • Describe interoception and its relation to emotion and theory of mind.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of Pediatric OT Primer, participants will:

  • List the multiple occupations of children in various settings.

  • Identify the difference between milestones and averages.

  • Recall three assessments common in pediatric occupational therapy.

  • Name OTPF 4 (AOTA, 2021) terminology as it relates to pediatric OT.

  • List ways in which behavioral concerns affect the performance of occupations of childhood.

  • Define executive function in pediatric OT.

  • Choose three treatment interventions for children with core muscle weakness.

  • Name three causes of poor handwriting in pediatrics.

  • Define deficits in crossing midline during occupation.

  • Recall the importance of behaviors as they relate to communication in children.

About the Instructor

Cara Koscinski, OTD, MOT, OTR/L

Dr. Cara Koscinski is many things!  She is the mother to two sons with autism, an occupational therapist, the original founder of The Pocket Occupational Therapist (now The Therapeutic Edge Collective), an author, educator, presenter, mentor, and more!

Dr. Koscinski has over 26 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy.  She has written 8 books related to the field and created countless resources such as continuing education courses, therapy materials, handouts, and more.

About the Instructor

Andrew Klein, MS, OTR/L

Andrew lives with his wife and 2 delightful children in Durham, NC.  He has been practicing as a pediatric OT for 15 years, in schools, homes, and outpatient clinics. He is a DIRFloortime® Expert Training Leader and Certified Trauma Professional.  Andrew currently specializes in therapist development and reflective supervision support for a team of 35+ therapists at Emerge Pediatric Therapy.
